Lasek Eye Surgery is a form of the latest technology using Laser Eye Surgery. This is a fairly new development that was developed this century. It is said to be a relatively pain free and safe procedure in order to correct and improve eyesight. Laser eye surgery is an alternative from wearing glasses, or using contact lenses, making every day life that little bit simpler for the person undergoing the operation. The procedure for Lasek Eye Surgery is relatively fast and effective. Imagine the joy of having no more headaches caused through squinting and struggling to read things that others can. Never having to worry about your glasses or contact lenses, and also in the long term possibly saving quite a lot of money! Lasek eye surgery is best for people involved with certain sports and who may have thin corneas in comparison with others.

First you should have an assesment done on your eyes to see what the problem is. Lasek eye surgery can be used to correct both Long sightedness and short sightedness and can be used to correct both eyes. The treatment can be broken down into 5 major steps.

  • 1) Anaesthetic drops are put into the eye.
  • 2) A flap is cut into the cornea to make way for the treatment and reshaping.
  • 3) Using lazers the cornea is reshaped to enable short and long sightedness to be corrected.
  • 4) The flap is repositioned over the cornea.
  • 5) A bandage type contact lense is then positioned over the eye to help comfort.

Treatment does not usually take very long. You will generally be in and out within the same day. Although anaesthetic is used slight pain and discomfort can be felt for up to 72 hours after surgery, but in the long term its undisputedly well worth it. Unfortunately not yet available through the NHS.
